I was in San Francisco all week, and it was raining almost all the time. Mon through Thursday runs were at 5am, in driving rain and wind. I did not run on Friday and on Saturday the rain finally stopped! Just in time for the 50k trail race. It was beautiful, in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, starting and finishing on Rodeo Beach. Very hilly 6,580' of elevation gain, and there was still a lot of running water and slippery mud on the course, I fell two times.

Well this is part of the fun I guess!

yes, certainly. and mud was not all that bad, because it's very soft. there were much scarier close calls when I was thinking "well, I'd rather not fall right here, on these very sharp looking stones". and I never really had time to enjoy the stunning views of the ocean, of the bridge and the city, it was a race, after all

first half in the bag

Ran my first half marathon for the year today. It was pretty good, I was pretty slow but still finished and am mobile and the medal was really different. All three important things about a race. Realized I really need to lose weight and train more consistently to get my speed back. Was a perfect morning for a race, the route was a little slippery in places, but it was, overall, a good experience.

Re: first half in the bag

congratulations! I don't like the slippery course part, but other than that sounds like you had a great race

Tuesday was a club head torch run and the first time I had run in 6 ... no maybe 7 ... weeks. Head torch run good as there is an official tail runner and lots of mincing round puddles so wasn't toi bad that I was REALLY REALLY UNFIT. need new trail shoes I think, current lot have no cushioning and neither, these days, do my joints
Knee played up horribly after.
Sat, started a new C25k course. Leading, that is (well joint leading, I tail run! ) Lovely bunch.
Sunday I took myself out for an actual training run! 4 mi, 1 min run, 1 min walk. With a HM with a 3h cutoff at the end of April in mind.
Let us not mention the chips (fries), the cookies (shortbread), the wine and the cognitive dissonance! Fitness, weight loss, and a happier knee await!
